Volunteer Oppotunities
The chamber is the best place for newcomers and long-established business people alike to get involved in the community and make a difference. Volunteers help build the community’s “social capital,” the networks and reciprocity that arise when people work together.  Volunteer opportunities include serving on committees and task forces where business professionals can get exposure to potential customers. Other committees set chamber policy on key legislative issues. Volunteers can choose to work on a one-time project or serve on standing committees.

Volunteer Opportunities

Ambassador Council
The purpose of the Ambassador Council is to strengthen the chamber membership by communication with new and existing members.   The group represents the chamber at ribbon cuttings, grand openings and networking events.  They act on behalf of the chamber to: answer questions and concerns, disseminate important information, and aid the members in making the most of their membership benefits. The ambassador's group is open to any chamber member interested in multiple networking opportunities.

Membership Council
The Membership Council maintains the heartbeat of the chamber by researching ways to add benefit and value to the membership. Volunteers become part of a critical team that helps recruit and retain members. The council plans and implements membership drives as needed and works to recruit a diverse membership base representative of the business community.

Small Business Council
The Small Business Council directs programming provided for small businesses throughout the year. The feedback and opinions of this group are gathered at 2-3 meetings per year.

The council markets and encourages participation in the Alamance County School-to-Careers Partnership while supporting activities such as job shadowing, internships, Junior Achievement and Career Fairs. The council finds practical ways to support local teacher recruitment and retention efforts. Good education is good business.

Legislative Action Committee
This committee meets regularly to discuss local, state and federal issues affecting local businesses and to advocate for business interests.

Retail Development Committee
The Retail Development Committee works to stimulate an increase in retail sales for the county implemented through the Shop Alamance marketing campaign. This group focuses on ways to increase local buying power, and investigates retail benchmarks to gauge performance trends.

Industrial Personnel Management Council
The Industrial Personnel Management Council conducts monthly meetings of industrial personnel human resource managers. This council is also responsible for hosting the annual NC Department of Labor Safety Awards luncheon.

Agri-Business Committee
Volunteers on this committee focus on promoting and marketing agriculture in Alamance County. They help plan the annual Agricultural Appreciation Banquet held in March and Farm-to-Table held in September. Committee members meet sparingly to plan both events.

Career Fair
Are you an event planner?  If so, join this committee and help coordinate a fair that provides a means for area high school seniors, college graduates and the general public to find employment.  Local businesses and industries with hiring needs are on hand to talk with potential employees.  Committee members meet on an as needed basis to plan and implement seminars and activities surrounding the event.

Business Expo
This committee plans and implements an annual business-to-business trade show that draws over 50 vendors and hundreds of attendees. This committee meets on an as needed basis to plan Expo activities, and assist in selling sponsorships and exhibitor space.

Annual Meeting
The chamber’s Annual Meeting, traditionally held in January, draws over 300 businesses, community, and civic leaders.  The event highlights the year's accomplishments, outlines strategic goals and includes several prestigious community service awards.  Committee members meet on an as needed basis to develop a theme, select menu, decorations and entertainment for the premier event.
