The chamber is dedicated to educating individuals to become successful and effective leaders for the future. Leadership Alamance, a program sponsored by the chamber, does just that. The nine-month program educates business associates about Alamance County's history, government, educational institutions, criminal justice system, health & human services, cultural aspects and its economic base. Effective group leadership skills and community trusteeship are also an integral part of the curriculum. Many of our graduates have gone on to serve on boards, commissions, community groups or in elected positions.
The quality of the participants is the primary strength of the program. Each year approximately 30 diverse students are selected representative of the public, private and civic sectors of the community. They must display leadership potential and express commitment to learn and effect change in the community. Participants must have full support of their employer or sponsoring organizations.
Students are required to devote a minimum of two days for a fall retreat and the third Thursday of each month from September through May. Prior to each session day, students must complete a prerequisite determined by the steering committee. Before graduation day, students must complete a class project determined by their fellow peers. Those who are unable to make the entire time commitment should not apply.
Participate in this program and grow in awareness and understanding of the challenges and issues facing our community, expand personal leadership talent into immediate applicable skills, and develop valuable contacts and communication networks within the community.
